Nestboxes and such like..
In spite of the weather, which for the most part hasn’t been great, we’re having a really entertaining spring at Dalesdown.
We’ve spotted a couple of buzzards flying around with a youngster, but closer to ground level, several of the nest boxes are in use by Great Tits and Blue Tits. We’ve got at least one wagtail nest, several chaffinches and there are fledgling blackbirds appearing in several places. But probably the crowning glory is that we’ve just discovered the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker seems to have nested in one of our oak trees.
The Bird Feeding Station was installed by the Volunteer team last year and has been a big hit with lots of the school kids, and with loads of the birds. With the woodpeckers being frequent visitors, we’re looking forward to seeing one or two Lesser Spotted youngsters around the grounds in a few weeks time.
