Dalesdown is, in general, a self catering environment. Our published prices do not include catering. We can provide contact with local caterers who regularly provide catered meals for group using Dalesdown. In this case, your contract will be direct with the providing caterer. Dalesdown is unable to accept responsibility for catering
Our catering facilities are regularly checked by the Food Safety Team of Horsham District Council.
Self Catering – Residential Centre
Dalesdown is hired on a self catering basis, providing you with access to our well appointed and maintained commercial kitchen in the Iliffe Centre.
We aim to provide and maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene in our kitchen facilities, providing high quality food storage, preparation and cleaning stations. We adhere to the best practice outlined in the Safer Foods Better Business (SFBB) programme published by the Food Standards Agency (www.food.gov.uk).
- Our kitchen is thoroughly cleaned by our housekeepers before you arrive at Dalesdown. We have an ongoing deep cleaning programme ensuring that each area of the kitchen is deep cleaned regularly.
- Our kitchen includes two gas cookers, using propane gas which is stored on site. Our gas installation is fully checked and maintained annually under maintenance contracts, and Gas Safety Certificates are issued annually.
- All equipment in the kitchen is checked weekly by our on-site facilities team. All electrical and gas appliances are subject of a maintenance contract and regularly tested. This includes PAT testing of electrical appliances.
- We will provide a thorough introduction to your catering team on arrival at Dalesdown.
Our terms and conditions make recommendation that your catering team are led by someone who, at minimum, holds a current Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate at Level 2. Your team will ensure that best practice is followed in the management of the kitchen, servery and food storage areas.
You will ensure that the kitchen is kept in a clean and tidy condition during your stay, taking care that the all food preparation, cleaning and food waste areas of the kitchen are kept clean. Colour coded chopping boards, with explanatory guidelines, are provided and should only be used for the purpose for which they are intended.
You will ensure that all guests are advised of allergens which may be present in foods served. Details of allergens are provided by the Food Standards Agency.

Dalesdown is primarily a centre for children and young people, and it is a condition of booking that the consumption of alcohol is not permitted anywhere on our site. Please note that Dalesdown is not licensed for the service or sale of alcohol, and the service of alcohol to guests, even as part of a meal may constitute an offence under the Licensing Acts. Your attention is drawn to our policy with regard to the use of alcohol at Dalesdown. This is part of our substance misuse policy which is available below.

You may enter into a contract with any caterer to provide for all or part of your catering requirements at Dalesdown. You should ensure that the caterer can provide you with a statement of best practice to ensure that the highest standards of hygiene will be maintained by them. Please contact us if you wish to arrange a visit for your caterer in advance of your event. To avoid disruption to visiting groups who are using the centre, unplanned visits are not permitted.
